I am not that in need to switch to a tube power section yet but well see what the future brings. I really do. In my opinion, the SVT VR could never top the SVT-300 in the direct and fast dry sound tubes ever delivered with any preamp in front of it. Just for the love of this power amp, it is so versatile, so dry and still juicy. I never had the luck to try a svp preamp and have read tons of this combination. Who else is a devotee This Ampeg power amp delivers and keeps on going for vintage and modern vibes. Is there another tube power amp that can do it please share Click to expand. I have always thought an SVT preamp is very quick, I could plug the EBS directly into my power amp input on the back of the head but I like the SVT preamp in front of it, you can tailor the sound the way you want it better than with just an EBS. The SVP is pretty much what they put in the SVT-II PRO so again why not just get an SVT or SVT-II, SVT-VR etc and have a built in preamp in addition to any overdrive you want If anything the power amp section would make it less responsive not the preamp, as long as you dont turn it up to insane levels an SVT is very quick and clean. There are preamps that can give you more in one foot switchable box: - a (modern) clean killer tone that delivers - something ampeg doesnt deliver: a raunchy blistering bite of overdrivedistortion. I have the preamp ampeg put out with it, SVT-IIP, and its awesome but as i understand it using them together would be just the same as an old svt 2 pro (the one with the same font as the non-pro svt 2s). I cannot speak for the alpha omega but I would certainly try out both. The alpha omega ultra was not out yet when I bought the B7K ultra and for the time being, the B7K ultra doesnt give me the need to try the alpha omega. You could sell the svt preamp for a very() nice price if you need the cash to buy another one.the advantages of this power beast. What cab do you use Your flight case wherein the SVT-300 is inserted, does it have ventilation holes on the left side. I am pretty happy with how I sit in the mix right now (a little too happy even.). I have been eyeing darkglass stuff but have tried to avoid them aswell, the alpha omega seems like a nice unit and Ill see how the used market looks after people have upgraded to ultras.
